Heads Up

If there’s one thing that’s unmistakable about Terriers, it’s their creativity. Just take a look around Nickerson Field at a BU Commencement. These grads have figured out how to stand out in a sea of scarlet caps and gowns and how to convey parting words to a crowd of 20,000. Their personal messages are on […]

One Second a Day: Seniors Record the Lead-up to Commencement

Inspired by social media’s popular one-second-a-day videos, we reached out to some members of the Class of 2018 and a few underclassmen and asked them to record a single moment from each of the 60 days leading up to the 2018 Commencement ceremony. We stitched the clips together into a single minute-long video that captured […]

2018 Commencement: Over in the Blink of an Eye

Ever wonder how Commencement festivities for more than 7,000 graduates and 20,000 guests are pulled off? Answer: a year of careful planning. Graduating, with a Big Assist from Dad

This weekend Eddie Almeida watched with pride, perhaps a little more pride than the average parent, as the second of his two children graduated from BU. The longtime custodian works the overnight shift at the GSU, and among the job’s benefits is tuition remission. Newly minted grad Andrew Almeida (COM’18) says his degree wouldn’t have been possible without his dad’s job.

BU’s 2018 Commencement Highlights

Under cloudy skies that threatened rain and warm, humid temperatures, an estimated 20,000 family and friends on Nickerson Field Sunday cheered for the Class of 2018 during BU’s 145th All-University Commencement. The 7,072 graduating students and guests listened to US Congressman John Lewis (Hon.’18) (D-Ga.), a leader of the nation’s Civil Rights Movement, deliver the main […]

Mayor of San Juan: What Will You Do in a Moral Crisis?

Her voice often cracking with emotion, the mayor of San Juan, P.R., used her BU Baccalaureate address Sunday at Marsh Chapel to take attendees to the ghostly streets of her devastated island, while urging them to raise their voices against injustices. Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto (CAS’84, Hon.’18) recounted her role as global troubadour for her […]
